Virgil van Dijk has backed Andy Robertson to remain an important figure at Liverpool after reports of surprise interest from Tottenham in the Scotland left-back.
The Liverpool captain was asked about the talk linking Robertson with a move away from Anfield and made it clear where he stands on the vice-captain’s position in the squad.
“He’s my vice-captain,” Van Dijk said, underlining Robertson’s status and influence inside the dressing room as speculation continues around his future.
Robertson has been a key part of Liverpool’s leadership group and one of the most consistent performers in the squad since arriving on Merseyside, with his role as deputy to Van Dijk reflecting how highly he is rated at the club.
Tottenham’s reported interest has added an unexpected angle to the summer narrative, but Van Dijk’s comments offered a firm message from within the Liverpool camp and highlighted Robertson’s standing as a senior player.
For now, Liverpool’s focus remains on preparations for the new season, with Van Dijk’s stance reinforcing the belief that Robertson is viewed as central to the team and its leadership.
