Van Dijk slams disrespectful Arne Slot question amid rumours

Arne Slot, sporting a dark turtleneck, looks thoughtfully into the distance with a serious expression, set against a blurred stadium background.

Virgil van Dijk has hit back at a journalist after being asked what he branded a “disrespectful” question about Arne Slot, with Liverpool still being linked to Xabi Alonso as speculation continues over the club’s managerial future.

The Liverpool captain was speaking while on international duty when the topic of Slot’s position was raised, despite the Dutchman only recently taking charge at Anfield. Van Dijk made it clear he had no time for the line of questioning, insisting Slot deserved respect and that it was wrong to drag other names into the conversation.

In response to the mention of Alonso, Van Dijk said the question was “disrespectful”, shutting down the suggestion and stressing that Liverpool’s focus is on the man currently in the job. He also underlined that the squad are backing Slot and are working with him day to day, rather than entertaining outside noise.

Even with rumours continuing to swirl, Van Dijk’s stance was firm: there should be no distractions, and no undermining of Liverpool’s current manager. The defender’s reaction left little doubt about where he stands, offering a strong message of support for Slot while dismissing talk linking Alonso to the Anfield post.
