Atletico president slams Spanish FA head over cup final venue

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has launched a strong criticism against the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Pedro Rocha, regarding the decision on the venue for the 2026 Copa del Rey final.

Cerezo stated that the decision is solely in the hands of Rocha, who will choose the stadium. “The one who decides the venue for the Copa del Rey final is the president of the Spanish Federation, Pedro Rocha, and no one else,” Cerezo said in comments reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca.”

He added, “He is the one who decides, and he will be the one to announce where the final will be held. We have nothing to do with it.”

The Atletico president’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about selecting the host stadium for the 2026 final. Traditionally, the final is held at a neutral venue, but the specific location often becomes a topic of debate and speculation among clubs and fans.

Cerezo’s clear message shifts the focus and responsibility directly to the federation’s leadership, distancing his club from the selection process and emphasizing that the final call rests with Rocha.
