Osimhen's Barcelona Move Faces One Major Hurdle

Victor Osimhen’s potential move to Barcelona is reportedly progressing, but one significant financial obstacle stands in the way of the deal being finalized.

The Nigerian striker, who plays for Napoli, has long been admired by the Catalan club. Recent reports from Spain indicate that Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has already held positive talks with Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, regarding a transfer in the summer of 2024.

It is claimed that an agreement in principle has been reached on personal terms between the player and Barcelona. However, the major stumbling block remains the transfer fee demanded by Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis.

De Laurentiis is known for his tough negotiating stance and has set a price tag of approximately €130 million for his star forward. This figure presents a serious challenge for Barcelona, given the club’s well-documented financial constraints and their need to comply with La Liga’s strict salary cap regulations.

Barcelona’s strategy is now focused on convincing Napoli to lower their asking price. The Spanish champions hope that Osimhen’s clear desire to join them, combined with a potential offer including players in exchange, could make the deal more feasible.

The coming months will be crucial in determining whether Barcelona can structure a financially viable offer to overcome this final hurdle and secure one of European football’s most sought-after strikers.
