Casemiro has delivered an emotional farewell message to Manchester United and its supporters, confirming his departure from the club after two seasons at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian midfielder’s move to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr was finalized on Friday, August 23, 2024. The transfer brings an end to a significant chapter for the 32-year-old, who arrived from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 for a fee reported to be around £70 million.
In a heartfelt video posted on his social media channels, Casemiro expressed his deep gratitude. “Dear Manchester United fans, it’s been an amazing two years,” he said. “It’s been a huge honour to wear this shirt and to play at Old Trafford, one of the most iconic stages in world football.”
He reflected on the collective effort during his tenure, stating, “We lifted a trophy together, which was one of my dreams when I came here. We fought hard to bring Manchester United back to where it belongs. I gave everything for this club and I hope that you all saw that on the pitch.”
Casemiro’s reference was to the Carabao Cup triumph in the 2022/2023 season, where he played a pivotal role in ending the club’s six-year trophy drought under manager Erik ten Hag. His first campaign was widely regarded as a success, providing steel and leadership to the midfield.
However, the 2023/2024 season proved more challenging for both player and club. Casemiro’s form dipped, and he was part of a United squad that recorded their lowest-ever Premier League finish, ending eighth in the table. This difficult season ultimately paved the way for his exit as Ten Hag looks to reshape his squad.
In his farewell, the five-time Champions League winner did not forget the club’s staff, adding, “I would also like to thank all the staff at the club, my teammates, and everyone who helped me during my time in Manchester.” He concluded with a direct message to the fans: “You will always be in my heart. Once a Red, always a Red. Thank you for everything.”
His departure marks a clear shift in strategy for Manchester United’s recruitment, moving away from high-profile, aging stars towards a focus on younger talent. The club confirmed the transfer, thanking Casemiro for his service and wishing him well for the future.
