Barcelona and Spain midfielder Pedri has sent a message of support to his young teammate Lamine Yamal, following the 16-year-old’s serious injury while on international duty.
Yamal suffered a severe hamstring injury in his left leg during Spain’s 2-1 victory over France in the UEFA Nations League final on October 10, 2024. Scans later confirmed a complete tear, ruling him out for approximately two months.
Speaking to the media, Pedri expressed his sympathy, drawing from his own extensive history with muscular problems. “I have told Lamine to be calm and patient,” Pedri stated. “The most important thing now is not to rush his return. He is very young, and he has a long career ahead of him. He must recover one hundred percent.”
The injury is a significant blow for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Yamal had become a crucial player for his club and was expected to be a key figure for La Roja in their upcoming matches.
Pedri’s advice comes from painful experience. The midfielder himself has missed a large number of games for Barcelona over the past three seasons due to recurring muscle issues, which also forced him to miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Yamal is now beginning his rehabilitation process with the aim of returning to full fitness before the end of 2024.
