Gavi reveals Yamal's injury status and comments on new role

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has provided an update on teammate Lamine Yamal’s condition following the injury the young winger suffered, while also addressing his own unfamiliar position on the pitch.

Speaking to the media after Barcelona’s latest match, Gavi confirmed that Yamal is recovering well after picking up a knock during the game. The 17-year-old star was forced off early, raising concerns among fans and staff alike.

“Lamine is fine. It was a scare more than anything serious,” Gavi said. “He felt some discomfort, but the medical team acted quickly. We expect him to be back with us soon.”

The injury occurred in the first half when Yamal went down following a challenge. He attempted to continue but was eventually substituted as a precaution. Barcelona’s medical staff have since assessed the situation and are optimistic about his return.

Gavi also took time to discuss his own role on the field, which has shifted in recent matches. The Spanish international has been deployed in a more advanced position than his usual midfield duties, a change that has drawn attention.

“It’s not my natural position, but I’m happy to help the team wherever the coach needs me,” Gavi explained. “I’m learning every day, and the most important thing is that the team benefits.”

The 20-year-old admitted the adjustment has required extra effort in training. “I have to work on different movements and understand the timing better. But the coach and my teammates have given me a lot of confidence.”

Barcelona’s coaching staff have experimented with Gavi in a forward role to add more energy and pressing ability in the final third. The player’s work rate and tactical intelligence have made the transition smoother than expected.

When asked about the team’s overall form, Gavi remained focused on the collective goal. “We are improving game by game. There are still things to correct, but the spirit in the dressing room is strong.”

Yamal’s injury status will be monitored closely ahead of Barcelona’s upcoming fixtures, with the club expected to provide further updates in the coming days. Gavi’s comments suggest the young star avoided a serious setback.
