Pedri offers advice to Lamine Yamal after shocking injury

Pedri has offered advice to Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal following the teenager’s shocking injury scare. The young winger was forced off during the first half of Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Leganés on Saturday, February 15, 2025, after appearing to suffer a muscle problem.

Yamal, 17, went down holding his right leg and was immediately substituted. The club later confirmed he had sustained a muscle injury to his right hamstring. Initial reports suggested he could be sidelined for up to four weeks, though further tests are expected to determine the full extent of the damage.

Pedri, who has himself endured a series of serious injuries earlier in his career, spoke to the media after the match. The midfielder urged his young teammate to stay calm and not rush his recovery.

“I told him to be patient,” Pedri said. “These things happen in football. The most important thing is to recover well and not come back too early. I have been through this many times, and I know what he is feeling right now.”

The injury comes at a crucial stage of the season for Barcelona. The club is fighting for the La Liga title and preparing for the knockout rounds of the Champions League. Yamal has been one of the team’s standout performers this campaign, contributing goals and assists on a regular basis.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick confirmed after the game that the injury was “not a small one” but refused to put a timeline on the player’s return. “We will wait for the medical report,” Flick said. “Lamine is young and strong. He will come back even better.”

Yamal is expected to miss Barcelona’s upcoming fixtures against Rayo Vallecano on February 22, 2025, and the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Atlético Madrid on February 26, 2025. His availability for the Champions League round of 16 tie in March 2026 remains uncertain.

Pedri added: “Lamine has a bright future. This is just a small setback. He has the right mentality to get through it. We will all support him.”
