Frank Lampard has made it clear he will not be returning to coach Chelsea, stating that the club’s current situation is “their own business.”
The former Chelsea midfielder and manager was linked with a potential return to Stamford Bridge following the club’s inconsistent results this season. However, Lampard has now ended any speculation by confirming he has no intention of stepping back into the dugout at his former club.
Speaking in a recent interview, Lampard said: “That is their own private matter. I have moved on from that chapter. My focus is on other projects and I am not looking to return to Chelsea as a coach.”
The 46-year-old, who managed Chelsea between 2019 and 2021, led the club to a top-four finish and an FA Cup final during his first season. He was sacked in January 2021 and replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who went on to win the Champions League later that year.
Lampard returned to Chelsea as interim manager in April 2023 following Graham Potter’s dismissal, but he failed to turn the club’s fortunes around, winning just one of his 11 matches in charge.
Since then, Chelsea have appointed Mauricio Pochettino, who took over in July 2023. The Argentine has faced a challenging campaign, with the team struggling for consistency in the Premier League.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Lampard has now firmly ruled out any possibility of a third stint at Chelsea. “I have great respect for the club and the fans, but my time there as a coach is over,” he added.
Lampard is currently exploring other opportunities in management, though he has not taken on a new role since leaving Chelsea in 2023. His name has been linked with several clubs in the Championship and abroad, but no deal has been confirmed.
For now, the former England international remains out of work, but he insists he is not rushing into any decision. “I will wait for the right project,” he said. “It has to be the right fit for me.”
