Ibrahim Diaz sets historic record in Africa Cup of Nations

Moroccan players celebrate a goal; one kisses his fingers while the other gestures in encouragement, both in red kits with green trim.

Ibrahim Diaz wrote his name into Africa Cup of Nations history after scoring for Morocco in their 1-0 win over Zambia on Wednesday, in the third round of Group A.

Diaz struck from the penalty spot in the 86th minute to seal the victory and secure qualification for the Atlas Lions.

The goal also gave Diaz a special place in the tournament’s records, as he became the first player to score for three different national teams at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Diaz has previously scored in the competition for both Spain and Morocco, and he has now added another landmark to his international story with this late winner.
