Rashford pushes Barcelona as Flick faces tough decision

Marcus Rashford is pushing for a move to Barcelona, and Hansi Flick now faces a difficult decision. The Manchester United forward has made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window, and the Catalan club has emerged as his preferred destination.

According to sources close to the player, Rashford has already communicated his desire to join Barcelona. The 27-year-old England international believes a move to La Liga would revive his career after a difficult spell at United. He has reportedly told his representatives to prioritise a deal with the Blaugrana.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is aware of the situation but remains cautious. The German coach is weighing up whether the squad truly needs another attacker, especially given the club’s well-documented financial constraints. Flick has been impressed by the form of his current forwards, including Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, and is not convinced that a January signing is necessary.

However, the pressure is mounting. Rashford’s camp has been in contact with Barcelona intermediaries, and the player is willing to take a pay cut to facilitate the move. United are also open to letting him leave, either on loan or permanently, as they look to reshape their squad under Ruben Amorim.

The key issue remains Barcelona’s ability to register new players. The club is still operating under strict La Liga financial fair play rules, and any deal for Rashford would require significant wage space to be freed up. Flick has been told that the board is working on solutions, but no guarantees have been given.

Rashford has not played for United since mid-December, with Amorim leaving him out of the squad for the last three matches. The forward was also absent from the team’s recent win over Southampton, fuelling speculation that his time at the club is coming to an end.

For Flick, the decision is not straightforward. He values squad harmony and does not want to disrupt the balance of his dressing room. But the chance to sign a player of Rashford’s calibre, especially on favourable terms, is tempting. The next few days will be crucial as Barcelona decide whether to push ahead with the deal or walk away.
