FIFA has identified Morocco as the ideal host for its new expanded Club World Cup, a competition that will be staged in a “super tournament” format. Morocco is seen as a strong candidate thanks to its modern infrastructure and its recent experience of organising major events.

The new FIFA Club World Cup will feature 32 teams and will be played for the first time in the summer of 2025 in the United States. FIFA is already looking ahead to future editions of the tournament, with Morocco now described internally as a preferred option to host.

The plan is for the revamped event to be played every four years, similar to the men’s World Cup. It is set to bring together the top club sides from all confederations, with European teams expected to make up a significant part of the field.

Morocco’s growing reputation as a football host has been boosted in recent years, not only through the staging of various CAF events, but also through the country’s ambitions on the global stage. The kingdom will be one of the co-hosts of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

Within FIFA, Morocco is viewed as a country that can deliver the tournament at a high level, with stadiums, travel links and organisational capacity seen as key strengths. The possibility of bringing the Club World Cup to Morocco would also fit the wider strategy of taking major FIFA events to different regions.

For now, no official decision has been announced on the host of a future Club World Cup edition after the 2025 tournament in the United States. However, Morocco’s name is increasingly being mentioned as the leading candidate for the next phase of FIFA’s new flagship club competition.
