Wayne Rooney has backed Liam Rosenior to “shine” after his appointment as Chelsea manager, insisting the former Derby County coach has the qualities to succeed at Stamford Bridge.
Rooney, who worked closely with Rosenior during his time in charge at Derby, described him as “as good a coach as I’ve ever worked with” and said Chelsea have made a smart choice.
“Liam is as good a coach as I’ve ever worked with,” Rooney said. “He won’t disappoint.”
Rooney explained that Rosenior’s strength lies in his day-to-day work on the training pitch, highlighting his attention to detail, strong communication and clear ideas about how he wants his teams to play. He believes those traits will translate well to the demands of managing a top club.
The former England captain also pointed to Rosenior’s ability to connect with players, saying he has the personality and authority needed to lead a dressing room while still getting the best out of individuals.
Rooney’s comments come as Rosenior steps into one of the biggest jobs in English football, with Chelsea turning to him as their new manager. Rooney is convinced the challenge will not be too big and expects Rosenior to make an immediate positive impact.
With Chelsea beginning a new chapter under Rosenior, Rooney’s endorsement offers a clear message: the club have appointed a coach he rates among the very best he has worked alongside.
