Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has hinted that Robert Lewandowski’s future at the club cannot be taken for granted, admitting the veteran striker’s situation will be reviewed ahead of next season.
Lewandowski, 36, remains one of Barça’s biggest names and most reliable finishers, but his long-term role has been a regular talking point as the club plans for the next phase of the project. Flick, speaking about the squad’s outlook, suggested that decisions on key positions—including the No. 9 spot—will be made with the wider sporting plan in mind.
The German coach did not say an exit is imminent, but his comments were notable because they opened the door to change rather than offering a firm guarantee. Flick acknowledged Lewandowski’s impact and experience, while also stressing that the club must consider balance, competition and the direction of the team moving forward.
Lewandowski is under contract and has continued to contribute, yet Barcelona’s financial situation and the need to refresh the squad have fueled speculation for months. Reports linking the club with younger forwards have only added to the idea that the summer could bring movement, either through a new signing arriving to share the workload or a bigger reshuffle if the right offer appears.
For now, Lewandowski remains part of the plan for the run-in, and the focus inside the dressing room is on results rather than rumors. Still, Flick’s admission will be read as a sign that Barcelona are preparing to assess all options once the season ends, including whether their star striker will continue to lead the line in 2025–26.
