Senegal star praises Morocco after Hugo Broos criticism

Senegal international Idrissa Gana Gueye has praised Morocco and its achievements in recent years, in comments that contradict the criticism made by South Africa coach Hugo Broos.

Broos had previously downplayed Morocco’s progress, arguing that the Atlas Lions benefited from “luck” at the 2022 World Cup and claiming their rise was not the result of long-term work.

However, Gueye pointed to Morocco as a clear example of what serious planning can produce on the continental stage, stressing that what the North African side has delivered is no coincidence.

Morocco is an example to follow,” the Senegal midfielder said, highlighting the impact of the country’s football project and the level the national team has reached.

Gueye’s remarks come as Morocco continue to be recognised for their historic run at the World Cup in Qatar, where they became the first African team to reach the semi-finals.

The Senegal star’s words added weight to the view that Morocco’s success has been built on organisation and development, rather than the narrative suggested by Broos.
