Bayern Munich have been dealt another significant injury setback just days before their crucial Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Bundesliga giants confirmed on Tuesday that key defender Dayot Upamecano has been ruled out of the upcoming fixture after picking up a muscle injury in training. The French international underwent medical assessments which revealed a strain that will keep him sidelined for the clash against his former club.
This latest blow adds to Bayern’s growing injury list ahead of the high-stakes encounter scheduled for 2026. The Bavarian side are already without several first-team regulars, including Manuel Neuer and Kingsley Coman, who are both nursing long-term issues.
Upamecano’s absence leaves a significant gap in Vincent Kompany’s defensive setup. The 27-year-old has been a cornerstone of Bayern’s backline this season, starting in all but one of their Champions League group stage matches so far.
Bayern face PSG on matchday five of the competition, with both sides desperate for points to improve their standing in the table. The German champions currently sit in 13th place with six points from four games, while the French side are just one point behind in 15th.
Medical staff will monitor Upamecano’s recovery closely, but early indications suggest he could also be a doubt for Bayern’s weekend Bundesliga fixture. The club have not provided a specific timeline for his return.
Kompany is now expected to turn to Eric Dier or Kim Min-jae to partner Matthijs de Ligt at the heart of defence against PSG. The Belgian coach will address the media in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, where he is likely to face questions about his defensive options.
Bayern travel to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, 26 November 2026, in what promises to be a pivotal night for both clubs’ European ambitions.
