Regragui reveals Morocco king role, apologises to star

Walid Regragui, head coach of the Moroccan national football team, gestures during a press conference, conveying key strategies.

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has spoken about the role played by King Mohammed VI in the national team’s success, and also offered an apology to one of the Atlas Lions’ stars.

Speaking in media comments, Regragui revealed that the King’s support was a key factor behind the team’s rise and the spirit shown by the players on their way to qualification, stressing that the backing was not only symbolic but also gave the squad a strong push during important moments.

The coach also addressed the situation of a player who did not receive the opportunities many expected, admitting that the technical choices can leave some players disappointed even when they deserve more.

Regragui apologised directly, saying he understands the frustration and insisting the decision was not personal, but linked to the needs of the team and specific match plans.

He added that managing a national team means making difficult calls, and that competition for places is intense, especially with the quality available in the squad.

Regragui underlined that every player remains important, and that the door stays open for anyone who continues to work and perform, as Morocco aim to keep building on their progress and maintain the same unity that has driven their recent achievements.
