Albacete have issued an apology to Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr after racist incidents during their Copa del Rey meeting.

The club described what happened as “painful and shameful” and said it was sorry for the abuse aimed at the Madrid forward. Albacete also stressed that the actions did not represent the wider fanbase.

Vinicius was subjected to racist chants during the tie, which led to the match being temporarily stopped while officials followed the anti-racism protocol. The player later spoke about the situation on social media, emphasising the need to keep fighting racism in football.

Real Madrid condemned the incidents and again called for firm action to eradicate racist behaviour from stadiums. The club backed Vinicius and reiterated their stance that there should be zero tolerance.

Albacete confirmed they were working with the authorities to identify those responsible. The club also made clear it would take the strongest possible measures available to it once those involved are found.

The episode added to a series of recent cases involving Vinicius in Spain, with the Brazil international continuing to be a target for abuse despite repeated calls for tougher punishment.
