Morocco set global standard for AFCON, warns of self harm

Morocco have been praised for setting a global benchmark in organising the Africa Cup of Nations, with a clear warning issued that the continent must avoid “self-destruction” through internal disputes and damaging conflicts.

The message came as Morocco’s preparations and infrastructure projects continue to draw attention, with the country viewed as raising the bar for what AFCON can look like in terms of facilities, planning and overall standards.

At the same time, the same assessment stressed that African football must protect its progress and image, warning that arguments and divisions could undo what has been achieved and harm the tournament’s value on and off the pitch.

Morocco’s approach was described as a model that can lift the competition and offer a stronger platform for teams, supporters and broadcasters, as long as the focus stays on development rather than conflict.
