Bayer Leverkusen have been dealt a blow after Morocco international Eliesse Ben Seghir picked up an injury linked to his involvement at the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving the Bundesliga side without the services of the “Moroccan lion”.

The situation was revealed following Ben Seghir’s return from the national team camp, where he had been with Morocco during the AFCON period. The player is now set to miss time with Leverkusen, in what has been described as another case of the AFCON “curse” hitting clubs through injuries.

Leverkusen are expected to monitor his condition closely in the coming days, with the injury ruling him out of upcoming commitments and disrupting the team’s plans as the season continues.
