CAF president Patrice Motsepe has sparked fresh controversy after delivering what many described as a delayed and contradictory speech, with critics saying his remarks amounted to an open admission of wrongdoing against Morocco and a clear attempt to legitimise chaos.
The reaction intensified on social media and in football circles, where observers argued that Motsepe appeared to “kill the victim and walk in their funeral” by speaking only after the damage had already been done, while presenting the situation as if it were normal.
According to the criticism, the speech came across as an exposed confession that Morocco was unfairly targeted, and that the disorder surrounding the case was being framed as acceptable instead of being firmly addressed.
The controversy has also fuelled wider anger over governance and decision-making in African football, with calls for clarity, accountability and concrete action rather than statements that, in the eyes of critics, only deepen the crisis.
