Kane and Diaz score as Bayern draw with Hamburg

Harry Kane looks frustrated after a missed opportunity, while coach Thomas Tuchel gestures from the sidelines. Luis Díaz celebrates a goal.

Harry Kane and Luis Diaz were both on the scoresheet as Bayern were held to a draw by Hamburg, with Vincent Kompany’s side needing a crucial goal-line clearance from Alphonso Davies to make sure they did not leave empty-handed.

Bayern started brightly and looked to set the tempo early, with Kane again leading the line and Diaz offering pace and movement in the final third. The visitors found a way through, and Kane did what he so often does by finishing clinically to put Bayern in front.

Hamburg responded well and grew into the game, refusing to be overrun even as Bayern enjoyed long spells of the ball. Their pressure was rewarded as they pulled level, turning the contest into a tense affair and forcing Kompany’s side to defend deeper than they wanted.

Bayern regained the lead through Diaz, who struck to restore their advantage and seemed to put them back on course. But Hamburg kept pushing and found another way back, making it 2-2 and setting up a frantic end to the match.

The key moment arrived late on when Hamburg came within inches of a winner. With Bayern under pressure and the ball heading over the line, Davies produced a decisive goal-line clearance to keep the scores level and preserve a point for Kompany’s team.

It meant Kane and Diaz could not turn their goals into a victory, but Bayern avoided defeat thanks to Davies’ intervention in a game that swung back and forth and underlined how much work still lies ahead for Kompany as he shapes his side.
