Real Madrid Confirm Serious Asensio Injury

Real Madrid have confirmed that forward Marco Asensio has suffered a serious injury to his left knee.

The club released an official statement on Sunday detailing the extent of the problem. Tests conducted at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital revealed that Asensio has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and also suffered damage to the lateral meniscus.

The injury occurred during a training session on Saturday as the squad prepared for their upcoming pre-season friendly against Arsenal in Maryland, USA. The Spanish international was forced to leave the session early following the incident.

Asensio is now scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days. Following the operation, the club’s medical staff will monitor his recovery closely. No timeline has been given for his return, but injuries of this nature typically require a lengthy rehabilitation period.

This is a significant blow for both player and club. Asensio, 23, was expected to be a key figure for Zinedine Zidane’s side in the 2023/2024 campaign. He had recently returned to full training after recovering from a separate abdominal issue that had kept him out of the team’s initial pre-season matches.

The winger’s absence will be felt as Real Madrid continue their preparations for the new season, which kicks off in August.
