Barcelona sporting director Deco has been sent a clear warning after presidential candidate Victor Font said he would remove him from his post if he wins the next club election.
Font, who previously ran in the 2021 vote, has stepped up his criticism of the current sporting project and made it clear he would bring in his own leadership team at the top of the football department. The candidate said Deco would not continue under his presidency, pointing to what he sees as the need for a different direction in recruitment and long-term planning.
Deco, appointed sporting director in 2023, has played a key role in Barcelona’s transfer strategy and squad shaping alongside president Joan Laporta. Font’s comments place that work under direct scrutiny as debate begins to intensify around the club’s future ahead of the next election.
Font’s stance also underlines a wider message: if there is a change in leadership, there could be major changes behind the scenes too, with the sporting director’s role one of the first positions targeted.
For now, Deco remains in charge of the club’s sporting decisions, but Font has made his position public — he has revealed that Deco would be removed if Font takes over at Camp Nou.
