Alan Shearer has backed Enzo Maresca to make a quick return to management after the Italian was surprisingly sacked by Chelsea.

Maresca’s time at Stamford Bridge ended in abrupt fashion, with the club deciding on another change in the dugout despite another season of upheaval in west London.

Speaking about the decision, Shearer did not hide his disbelief at how quickly things can shift at Chelsea. “Chelsea is a bonkers club,” he said, pointing to the constant churn of managers and the pressure that comes with the job.

Shearer believes Maresca will not be out of work for long, stressing that managers with his profile and reputation tend to find opportunities quickly, even after a sudden dismissal.

The former England striker also highlighted the wider reality at Stamford Bridge, where patience has often been in short supply and the next appointment is never far away. For Maresca, though, Shearer’s view is clear: the setback is unlikely to slow his career for long.
