Alexandre Pato urged to copy Wrexham documentary amid talk of Colchester takeover

Former Brazil forward Alexandre Pato has been urged to take inspiration from the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary after talk emerged of a surprise takeover involving League Two side Colchester United.

The ex-AC Milan and Chelsea striker has been linked with a move into football ownership, with reports suggesting he is part of a group exploring a potential deal at Colchester.

That development has prompted comparisons with the high-profile purchase of Wrexham by Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, which was followed by their documentary series charting the club’s rise and transformation.

Pato has now been encouraged to follow that model if he does become involved at Colchester, with the idea that telling the story of the club and its community could help drive interest and support, in the same way Reynolds and McElhenney did in north Wales.

Colchester, who play at the JobServe Community Stadium, have spent recent seasons in League Two and would represent an unexpected entry point for a global name like Pato should takeover discussions progress.

There has been no official confirmation from Pato or the club about any agreement, but the links have already sparked debate about what the former international’s role could look like and how a documentary-style approach could shape the narrative around any new era.
