Allan Saint-Maximin has confirmed his departure from Club América after alleging that his daughters were subjected to racist abuse during his time in Mexico.
The French winger said his family had been targeted, and he used his exit message to condemn discrimination. “Hatred and discrimination have no place in our society,” Saint-Maximin said, as he brought his spell with the Liga MX side to an end.
Saint-Maximin did not go into further detail about the incidents, but his comments made clear the reason behind his decision to move on. He also stressed the wider message, calling for greater respect and protection for children.
His statement confirmed what has now been revealed: Saint-Maximin’s time at Club América is over, with the player choosing to leave the club in the wake of the claims involving racist attacks on his daughters.
Club América have not been quoted responding to the allegations in the player’s message, but the situation has put the spotlight back on racism in football and the responsibility to act when families are affected.
Saint-Maximin, who is moving on after a brief stint with América, signed off by reiterating that there is no place for hate, either in football or in wider society.
