Moroccan winger Achraf Ben Sharqi has issued a public apology to Al Ahly fans following his recent award win, as video footage captured the moment he expressed regret over his earlier performances.
The 28-year-old forward, who joined the Egyptian giants in 2026, was named the club’s Player of the Month after a string of impressive displays. However, rather than simply celebrating the accolade, Ben Sharqi used the platform to address the supporters directly.
“I want to apologize to the Al Ahly fans for my performances in the first few months,” Ben Sharqi said in the video. “I know I didn’t meet expectations, but I have been working hard to improve and show my real level.”
The former Wydad Casablanca star struggled initially after his move in January 2026, failing to find consistency in the red shirt. Critics questioned the club’s decision to sign him, with some fans voicing their frustration on social media.
But Ben Sharqi has turned things around dramatically in recent weeks. His dribbling, creativity, and goal contributions have been key to Al Ahly’s strong run of results, earning him the monthly award and a financial bonus from the club’s management.
“I am grateful for the support I have received from the coaching staff and my teammates,” he added. “They helped me stay focused and believe in myself. Now I want to repay the fans with more good performances.”
