Led by Demiral, a surprise inspection targeted Al Ahly players after the derby.
A sudden doping inspection was conducted on Al Ahly players following their match against Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League. The inspection took place immediately after the final whistle of the classic encounter, which ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The inspection team was led by Turkish official Merih Demiral, who oversaw the process inside the Al Ahly dressing room. Players were randomly selected to provide samples, with the procedure lasting approximately 45 minutes after the match concluded.
According to sources inside the club, the inspection came without prior notice, catching the players and staff off guard. The team had just finished a high-intensity derby, and the sudden request for samples added an unexpected delay to their post-match routine.
Al Ahly officials confirmed that all players complied fully with the inspection. The club stated that the process was carried out according to standard regulations, with no objections raised from any party.
The Egyptian Football Association has not yet issued an official statement regarding the inspection. However, sources indicate that such tests are routine and part of ongoing efforts to ensure fair play in the league.
Demiral, who has been involved in similar inspections in other competitions, maintained a professional approach throughout the procedure. The samples will now be sent to the relevant laboratory for analysis, with results expected within the coming weeks.
This is not the first time Al Ahly players have faced a surprise doping test after a major match. Similar inspections were conducted earlier in the 2024-2025 season following key fixtures in both domestic and continental competitions.
