Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou will not be able to equal the long-standing Africa Cup of Nations record held by Egypt legend Essam El Hadary at AFCON 2025.
The record belongs to El Hadary, famously known as “The High Dam”, after he became the oldest player to appear at the tournament. El Hadary played at AFCON 2017 at the age of 44 years and 21 days, setting a mark that still stands.
Bounou, who has been one of the continent’s top goalkeepers in recent years, will not reach that age by the time AFCON 2025 kicks off, meaning he cannot match El Hadary’s milestone at the next finals.
El Hadary’s achievement remains one of the most iconic individual records in AFCON history, and it continues to be a reference point whenever veteran goalkeepers shine on the African stage.
