Chelsea have agreed to send highly-rated youngster Aaron Anselmino back to River Plate after deciding to cancel his planned loan move to Strasbourg.
The 19-year-old defender was signed by Chelsea from River Plate last year, with the deal understood to be worth around €18 million. Anselmino was initially expected to spend this season on loan at Strasbourg, but that plan has now been changed.
Instead, Chelsea have reached an agreement for Anselmino to return to River Plate on loan. The switch allows the centre-back to stay in familiar surroundings and continue his development with regular football in Argentina.
The move also means Anselmino will not be joining Strasbourg as previously arranged, with Chelsea opting for a different pathway for the teenager.
Anselmino is considered one of the brightest defensive prospects to come out of River Plate in recent years, and Chelsea will continue to monitor his progress closely during his time back at the Buenos Aires club.
