Como director dismisses Real Madrid threat

Como sporting director, Carlos Augusto de Menezes Junior, has dismissed suggestions that his club feels intimidated by the prospect of facing Real Madrid in a legal dispute over the future of youth player Francesco Camarda.

The controversy stems from Camarda’s high-profile move from AC Milan to Como in the summer of 2024. Real Madrid had also been strongly linked with the Italian prodigy and, according to reports from Spain, have not ruled out taking legal action, claiming they had a pre-agreement with the player and his family.

When asked about the potential threat from the Spanish giants, the Como director was unequivocal. “We are not afraid of Real Madrid’s threats,” he stated firmly. He emphasized that the club’s position is built on a solid legal foundation, having followed all necessary procedures in the transfer.

“We have done everything according to the rules,” he explained. “We contacted Milan, paid the training compensation, and registered the player with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). The federation has all the documents. We are very calm about our position.”

He went on to clarify the timeline, noting that Camarda’s contract with Milan expired on June 30, 2024, and he officially became a Como player on July 1. The director expressed confidence that any potential case would be resolved in their favor, pointing to the established regulations that govern such transfers for players under the age of 18.

The 16-year-old Camarda made history in November 2023 by becoming the youngest player ever to debut in Serie A at 15 years and 260 days. His signing was a major coup for Como, a club with ambitious plans following its promotion to Italy’s second tier.
