Cristiano Ronaldo backed to play until 50 to win World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates in Portugal's red kit alongside the FIFA World Cup trophy, highlighting his ambition for the 2026 tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been backed to keep playing until he is 50 as he chases the one major honour missing from his career: the World Cup.

The Al-Nassr forward, 39, is entering the final stretch of his career but, according to those close to him, he has no intention of walking away while that goal remains out of reach. The report reveals he feels he “can’t finish” his career without lifting football’s biggest prize and that the disappointment of falling short on the global stage continues to drive him.

Ronaldo has already won trophies and individual awards across England, Spain and Italy, and has scored relentlessly at club and international level. But the World Cup has eluded him despite multiple appearances with Portugal, including at Qatar 2022.

That hunger, and what has been described as a sense of jealousy when comparing himself with World Cup winners, is said to be pushing him to extend his career far beyond what most players manage at the top level.

With the next tournament set for 2026, Ronaldo will be 41 by the time it begins. However, he has now been tipped to continue for several more years after that if he believes it improves his chances of getting his hands on the trophy.

Ronaldo remains a key figure at Al-Nassr and continues to be central to Portugal’s plans, with his determination to keep going showing no signs of easing.
