Roberto De Zerbi has suggested Ethan Nwaneri could go straight into his Marseille squad this weekend after the Ligue 1 side agreed a loan deal for the young Arsenal midfielder.

Marseille have moved quickly to bring Nwaneri in, and De Zerbi indicated the teenager will not need a long wait before being involved. Speaking ahead of the weekend’s fixture, the Marseille head coach hinted the Arsenal youngster is set to be available immediately, depending on the final formalities being completed.

Nwaneri, one of the most highly rated prospects at Arsenal, is expected to join up with his new team-mates in the coming days as Marseille look to strengthen their options. De Zerbi’s comments also made clear that the club see the loan as a chance for the player to gain senior minutes and for Marseille to add quality in the short term.

The move would mark Nwaneri’s first spell away from Arsenal, with Marseille offering him the opportunity to play at a high level in France. De Zerbi, who is shaping his squad for the new campaign, stopped short of confirming selection plans but left little doubt that Nwaneri is in contention for this weekend if everything is finalised in time.
