Former Arsenal midfielder Anders Limpar has backed Viktor Gyokeres despite the striker’s struggles in open play, insisting the Sweden international remains a “born goalscorer”.

Gyokeres, who has been linked with a £64 million move amid growing transfer talk, has faced questions over his recent output from open play. Speaking about the Sporting CP forward, Limpar offered a firm defence and said confidence in the player should not be shaken by a short run without the right kind of goal.

“I love him!” Limpar said, making clear he is a big admirer of the 25-year-old. The ex-Arsenal player also described Gyokeres as a “born goalscorer”, highlighting his belief that the striker’s instinct and finishing ability are not in doubt.

The comments come as Gyokeres’ open-play run has become a talking point, with attention growing around his form and price tag. Limpar’s stance, however, is that the qualities that made Gyokeres so dangerous have not disappeared, and that strikers can go through spells where goals arrive in different ways.

With speculation building around his future and a major fee being discussed, Gyokeres is now under even greater scrutiny. Limpar’s message was clear: he still sees a natural scorer who will deliver, even if the goals have recently been harder to come by during open play.
