A former Liverpool player has explained why he believes Mohamed Salah has “suffered” at times this season, while also urging the Egypt forward to ignore any temptation to move to Saudi Arabia.
Salah, now 33, has once again been central to Liverpool’s attack, but the ex-Red suggested his form has not always reached the level supporters have come to expect. In his view, the main reason is the amount of responsibility Salah carries in the final third, with opponents also tailoring their plans to stop him.
The former Liverpool man said Salah has often faced heavy attention and tight marking, which has made his job harder and has affected his influence in some matches. He pointed to the way teams set up to cut off Salah’s space, forcing him to work in crowded areas and take fewer risks.
Despite those challenges, the ex-Red stressed that Salah remains one of Liverpool’s most important players and a difference-maker at the top level. He also made it clear he would not advise the winger to leave European football for Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career.
While acknowledging the financial pull of the Saudi Pro League, he urged Salah to focus on continuing to compete at the highest level, where he can still deliver in big games and chase major honours. He believes Salah still has plenty to offer at the elite end of the sport and should not be distracted by outside noise.
Salah has been linked with interest from Saudi Arabia in recent years, but the ex-Liverpool player’s message was straightforward: stay in Europe, keep pushing standards, and trust that his quality will continue to shine through even when opponents make him the main target.
