Ex-team-mate gives verdict on Ronaldo Man Utd return

Cristiano Ronaldo, wearing a yellow Al Nassr kit, reacts in frustration during a match, holding his head in disappointment.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a surprise return to Manchester United for a third spell, but a former team-mate has played down the chances of any move happening.

The speculation has picked up again after what has been described as a “shock” decision in Saudi Arabia, with Ronaldo’s future at Al-Nassr once more being debated. The 39-year-old remains the club’s headline name and continues to be one of the biggest draws in the Saudi Pro League, but questions have been raised following a recent call involving his availability.

Ronaldo, who has already had two spells at Old Trafford, left United for a second time in 2022. He first joined from Sporting in 2003, became a key figure in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, and returned in 2021 in a deal that brought him back to the Premier League.

Despite the renewed talk, his ex-United colleague has offered a clear verdict on the idea of Ronaldo pulling on the red shirt again, suggesting it would be difficult to see the move making sense for either side at this stage.

That view comes with Ronaldo still under contract at Al-Nassr and with his focus continuing to be on his current club, where he has remained central to their plans since arriving in Riyadh at the end of 2022.

As revealed, the latest round of rumours has been fuelled by a decision involving Ronaldo at Al-Nassr that caught many by surprise, but there has been no confirmed indication that any return to Manchester United is on the table.
