A fake fortune teller has been accused of exploiting the Morocco Africa Cup of Nations to make millions, after authorities revealed a scheme built around predicting match results and selling “guaranteed” tips to football fans.
According to the information revealed in the case, the man promoted himself widely during “CAN Morocco”, using social media and messaging apps to attract clients with daily predictions linked to the tournament.
Investigators say he presented himself as someone with special knowledge, offering paid subscriptions and private groups in exchange for promised winnings. The same file indicates that many victims sent him money after he claimed he could deliver certain results, especially around the key games of the competition.
The fortune teller allegedly expanded the operation as the tournament progressed, raising his prices and advertising bigger “packages” each time the pressure of the knockout rounds grew. He is also said to have used screenshots and manipulated messages as “proof” that his previous tips had worked, encouraging more people to pay.
The case has drawn attention because it relied on the popularity of AFCON and the strong public interest in Morocco hosting the event. Officials say the investigation is ongoing, with the aim of identifying all those involved and determining the full value of the sums collected.
Authorities have warned supporters to be cautious of pages and individuals who claim to “guarantee” football outcomes, stressing that such promises are usually linked to fraud and illegal money collection.
