Jose Mourinho once “fly-kicked” a table in the Chelsea dressing room in a fit of rage, according to former Blues winger Florent Malouda.
Malouda has revealed the extreme moment from Mourinho’s first spell at Stamford Bridge, saying the Portuguese coach lost control after a disappointing display and took it out on the furniture as he tried to send a message to his players.
“He kicked the table, he fly-kicked it,” Malouda said, recalling a team talk where emotions boiled over. “It was crazy.”
The former France international explained that Mourinho’s anger was aimed at raising standards inside a squad that had been built to win, with the manager demanding the same intensity and focus every week regardless of the opponent.
Malouda also said Mourinho’s approach could be fierce but clear, with players left in no doubt about what was expected of them. He added that incidents like the table kick showed how much Mourinho cared about results and performance.
Mourinho won multiple trophies during his time in west London, building a reputation for his relentless drive and ability to get the best out of his dressing room. Malouda’s story offers a rare glimpse into how intense things could get behind the scenes when standards slipped.
