Ibrahim Hassan, the director of Egypt’s national team, exchanged sharp words with a Moroccan journalist on the sidelines of the AFCON 2025 draw, telling him that Morocco had “waited 50 years to win a title.”
In a video clip circulating on social media, the journalist addressed Hassan about Morocco’s hosting of the tournament and its ambitions to lift the trophy, before Hassan responded by pointing to Morocco’s long wait for continental silverware.
“You waited 50 years to win a championship,” Hassan said, in remarks that quickly drew attention online.
The exchange came as Egypt continue preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with the draw setting the path for the teams ahead of the 2025 finals.
