Ismael Saibari's brace leads PSV to dramatic comeback win

Ismael Saibari was the hero for PSV Eindhoven, scoring twice to inspire a stunning 3-2 comeback victory over FC Volendam in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The Moroccan international’s dramatic late winner sealed a remarkable turnaround after his side had fallen two goals behind.

The match at the Philips Stadion began in disastrous fashion for the league leaders. Volendam’s Zach Booth opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, capitalizing on a defensive error to slot home. The visitors then doubled their lead just three minutes later, with Lequincio Zeefuik finishing a swift counter-attack to stun the home crowd.

PSV emerged from the break with renewed purpose and halved the deficit in the 52nd minute. A precise through ball from Joey Veerman found Saibari, who made no mistake with a calm finish. The midfielder then completed his brace to level the score in the 67th minute, firing home from inside the box after a clever pass from Johan Bakayoko.

With the match seemingly headed for a draw, substitute Anwar El Ghazi, who was revealed to have had his contract terminated by Mainz 05 earlier in the week, made a decisive impact. The winger delivered a perfect cross in the 89th minute, and fellow substitute Youssef Driouch rose highest to power a header into the net, completing the frantic comeback in the dying moments.

The victory maintains PSV’s commanding ten-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie table. For Volendam, the heartbreaking defeat leaves them rooted to the bottom, facing a severe battle to avoid relegation.
