USMNT legends Landon Donovan and Tim Howard have weighed in on Wilfried Nancy’s exit, saying the coach deserves far more credit than he received during his time at Celtic.

Speaking about Nancy and how his spell at the Scottish club is viewed now, Donovan said: “He’s much better than what it turned into at Celtic.” The former United States captain stressed that Nancy’s quality as a coach should not be judged only by how that chapter ended.

Howard echoed the same message, backing Nancy’s ability and insisting his reputation should not be defined by a difficult period. The ex-USMNT goalkeeper pointed to the way coaching jobs can quickly shift when results and pressure build, even for talented managers.

The discussion comes following the confirmed news that Nancy has departed, a decision that has prompted reaction on both sides of the Atlantic. Donovan and Howard both underlined that the bigger picture of Nancy’s work matters, not just the final impression left at Celtic.

While the pair acknowledged that Celtic can be an unforgiving environment, they made it clear that Nancy remains a highly rated coach in their eyes and that his next opportunity should reflect that.
