Manchester United have been dealt a major setback in their pursuit of Ruben Neves, with the midfielder now expected to commit his future to Al-Hilal.

Neves had been linked with a possible move away from Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window, with United among the clubs credited with an interest as they looked to add experience and control in midfield.

Those hopes appear to be fading fast. It has been revealed that Neves is set to sign a new contract with Al-Hilal, a move that would effectively shut down any talk of a winter exit.

The Portugal international only joined the Riyadh side last summer, but his situation had still drawn attention amid suggestions he could be open to a return to Europe.

United, however, now look set to miss out, with Al-Hilal ready to tie Neves down and keep him as part of their long-term plans.
