Mbappe injury blow for PSG before Bayern clash

Paris Saint-Germain has been dealt a severe blow just nine days before their crucial Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich, with star forward Kylian Mbappe suffering an injury.

The French international was forced off during PSG’s Coupe de France semi-final victory over Rennes on Wednesday evening. Mbappe was substituted in the 42nd minute after an apparent knock to his left leg, casting a shadow over the 1-0 win that booked their place in the final.

Initial reports from France indicate the injury is to his left hamstring. While the club has not yet issued an official medical update, the timing could not be worse for manager Luis Enrique. PSG faces a defining period, with the first leg against Bayern Munich in Germany scheduled for April 9, 2024, followed by the return leg in Paris on April 16, 2024.

Mbappe’s potential absence would be a monumental setback for the Parisians. He is the team’s undisputed talisman and leading scorer, having netted 39 goals in all competitions this season. His pace and clinical finishing are considered vital to any hopes of overcoming the German giants.

The coming days will be critical as PSG’s medical staff assess the severity of the issue. All eyes will be on the club’s training ground, awaiting news on whether their main man will be fit for the European showdown in Munich.
