Six Egypt players are walking a disciplinary tightrope ahead of Friday’s key AFCON 2025 qualifier against Senegal, with suspensions looming if they pick up another booking.
Egypt host Senegal at Cairo International Stadium on Friday, in the opening round of the second half of the African qualifying campaign.
Mohamed Salah, Mostafa Mohamed, Hamdi Fathi, Marwan Attia, Ahmed Ramadan “Beckham” and Hossam Abdelmaguid all go into the match on a caution and would be ruled out of the following fixture if they are booked again.
The warning comes as Egypt look to maintain their push at the top of their group, with the national team aiming to take maximum points from the two-match window against the reigning African champions.
The clash in Cairo is followed by the reverse meeting in Dakar next week, meaning any suspension could hit the Pharaohs at a crucial moment in the qualifiers.
With several regular starters among the threatened players, the technical staff will be keen to manage the game carefully and avoid losing key names for the return leg.
