Real Madrid’s leadership is reportedly waiting for a signal from German coach Jürgen Klopp regarding his future plans, as they consider him a primary candidate to take over the managerial role at the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Marca,” the Madrid club’s administration has set a peculiar condition for Klopp’s potential appointment. The report states that Real Madrid will only proceed with an official offer for the former Liverpool manager if he expresses a clear and definitive desire to return to coaching immediately, specifically in the summer of 2024.
The club’s stance is that they will not enter into any negotiations or make a move for Klopp unless he initiates contact first or publicly announces his readiness to return to the dugout without a break. This puts the ball firmly in Klopp’s court.
Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the current 2023-2024 season, stating his intention to take a full year’s sabbatical from management to rest. This announcement immediately linked him with the Real Madrid job, especially with current manager Carlo Ancelotti’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2026.
Ancelotti has enjoyed tremendous success in his second stint with Real Madrid, winning a La Liga title, a Champions League, and two FIFA Club World Cups. Despite this, his long-term future remains a topic of discussion, with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) having publicly expressed its desire for him to lead the Brazilian national team.
For now, Real Madrid’s plan is clear: they are happy with Ancelotti and his contract until 2026. However, they are keeping a close watch on Jürgen Klopp’s situation, ready to act only if the German coach himself indicates that his planned sabbatical is over and he is eager for a swift return to the touchline.
