Roy Keane’s long-running feud with an old rival did not stop the Manchester United legend from quietly picking up the bill during a restaurant meet-up, despite their hostility stretching back more than 20 years.
The story was revealed by Keane’s former foe, who explained that the pair ended up sitting down together even though their relationship had been defined by bad blood and a famous on-air clash. That exchange included Keane’s blunt dismissal: “You can f*ck off!”
Jamie Carragher was said to have played the role of middleman in bringing them together, helping to ease the tension enough for a face-to-face conversation away from the cameras.
And while there was no suggestion their issues had been fully resolved, the revelation from Keane’s rival was that the Irishman still showed a surprising gesture of respect when the meal ended.
