Ruben Amorim has been criticised by the Portuguese media following Manchester United’s decision to sack him, with reports accusing the coach of showing “excessive rigidity” during his time at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s spell in charge is being picked apart in his homeland after what had been described as a “dream” move to the Premier League ended in disappointment, with one assessment claiming that the Old Trafford opportunity “became a nightmare”.

However, the same coverage has also pointed the finger at United, arguing the club’s lack of “strategy” played a major role in how the situation unfolded.

The reports suggest Amorim did not adapt enough to the changing demands around him, while United are said to have failed to put a clear plan in place to support the project and give the head coach the structure needed to succeed.

Amorim’s departure ends another turbulent chapter for the Red Devils, with scrutiny now set to fall on what comes next as the club looks to reset once again.
