Ruben Amorim firmly defended his tactical approach in a tense exchange following Sporting CP’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United in their UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

After the match, questions arose surrounding Sporting’s 3-4-3 formation, a setup that appeared to catch the Red Devils off guard. When asked to explain his formation choice, Amorim responded sharply, saying, “I don’t want to talk about that.”

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, acknowledged the difficulty in grasping Sporting’s tactics. He admitted, “It’s hard to understand some things they do, but we have to respect their game plan and focus on our own performance.”

The first half saw Sporting take control early on with tight marking and sharp pressing. Paulinho opened the scoring in the 28th minute, giving the home team the lead. Marcus Edwards doubled the advantage just before halftime, converting a swift counterattack in the 43rd minute.

Despite efforts from United to regroup, Sporting sealed the win with a late goal from Pedro Porro in the 87th minute. This result puts Sporting on a strong footing in Group E, while United will need to reassess their strategy ahead of the next fixtures.

Amorim’s refusal to elaborate on his tactical plans added to an already intense atmosphere between the two coaches. Yet, both managers expressed respect for each other’s teams despite their differing views on match preparation and formations.
