Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that neither Kobbie Mainoo nor Joshua Zirkzee will leave the club during the January transfer window, effectively ruling out potential moves to Manchester United. Speaking ahead of Sporting’s upcoming fixtures, Amorim emphasized that both players are key to his squad and will remain with the team for the rest of the season.

The 17-year-old Mainoo, who has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, was recently linked with a move that would see him return to England. Meanwhile, Zirkzee, on loan at Sporting from Bayern Munich, had also been the subject of transfer speculation amid reports linking him to a permanent switch back to England. However, Amorim has dismissed these rumors and confirmed the duo’s status at the Lisbon-based club.

“Kobbie and Joshua are important players for us right now,” Amorim said. “We have no plans to let them go in January. Our focus is on building a strong team, and keeping these young talents is a part of that strategy.”

Sporting’s decision to retain Mainoo and Zirkzee comes as the Primeira Liga side looks to maintain momentum in their domestic and European campaigns. Both players have played notable roles this season, with Zirkzee contributing goals and Mainoo impressing in midfield play.

Despite ongoing interest from Manchester United, Amorim’s clear stance puts an end to transfer rumors that had suggested January departures. This latest development ensures that the club’s young talents will remain integral to Sporting’s project through the remainder of the campaign.
